Hello, everyone! I hope you are all having a beautiful holiday season. I know it’s difficult for many of you. Seven years ago, I watched several friends going through hard times, but I didn’t have a way to help them myself. I figured out a way, though, by setting up The Village Christmas Project

I set each family up with an anonymous Amazon wish list that anyone from anywhere can shop off of. I look forward to this every year.

This year, I have five families: all of them have been impacted by #longCOVID, and two of them are currently #homeless. I know all of them personally, what they are going through now, what they have come through already.

Please, if you are able, look through their lists. I encourage them to include not just needs but wants as well. Sometimes they need a lot of encouragement on the latter.

And if you aren’t able to shop their lists, please share this. I put a lot of thought and love into this every year.

Family A:

Family of three. Mom is a COVID long-hauler. Dad was laid off earlier this year, and just this week, mom was as well. They have a brilliant, darling five-year-old daughter. They lost their home several weeks back and have nothing for the holidays.

Family B:

Single mom of three kids. Mom is a COVID long-hauler. She recently lost her job but was able to start a new one. Money is still very tight, however.

Family C:

Family with six kids. Two with profound disabilities. Mom is a COVID long-hauler and facing heart valve replacement surgery. This family in particular has faced numerous challenges over the past decade, including suicide of dad.

https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/HK897EGL31BW?ref_=wl_share

Family E:

Single mom of four. The youngest is a COVID long-hauler. They have faced significant financial hardships over the years. They just got their first car (used), so mom is finally able to work outside the home. Little to no support over the years.

https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/22VEOSWI7AKTJ?ref_=wl_share

Family F:

Single mom of a teenager daughter. Mom is a COVID long-hauler. Functionally homeless. She’s always so giving and loving to others, even when she has little to give.

Please note: there is no Family D. Strange little quirk with that account this year.

May this holiday season and the new year be kind to us all.

Wishing you all the best this holiday season!

The Village Christmas Project 2022

Oh, my! It’s time again! First we’ll make snow angels for two hours, and then we’ll go ice skating, and then we’ll eat a whole roll of Toll House cookie dough as fast as we can, and then, to finish, we’ll snuggle.

Oh, wait. No, how about this:

Let’s help as many families as we can this holiday season! We have 17 signed up so far. Look for bios and links after you take that turkey out to thaw.

We’ll see you soon!

Son of a Nutcracker! It’s time!

Still working on bios after a full weekend. More to come!

I hope you are all finding this holiday season to be a source of peace and hope.

Family 61:

This single mother could use your help to give her son a good Christmas! They live with her family while she works and goes to school full time! She is finishing up her Associate’s in teaching and will be starting the Bachelor’s program in fall 2021. They love to play with Legos, do crafts, listen to music, play outside, and read books together.

Her son is almost 4 years old and wears a 4-5T in kid’s clothes and a 11-12 toddler shoe. He needs a new bike because he outgrew his old one. He also loves to read and play with toys that allow him to show his independence like playing pretend or building.

The mom wears a size XL in pants and shirts or a 16 in shorts. She wears a size 8 shoe but is mainly in need of undergarments and socks.

More Lists Coming!

Beep beep! Here comes Christmas!

This has been such a difficult year for so many: so much trauma, grief, loss, and uncertainty. We’re trying to help as many families as possible this year, it’s certainly a Herculean task, but we’re up for it! Thank you all so much for your generosity, time, and compassion.

Family bios coming soon!

EDIT: Some links need to be fixed. Working on this now. Thank you!

Christmas Family List 2020

It’s Christmas Eve Eve, and we’re frantically trying to respond to as many messages as we can, coordinate local drop offs, and try to get some last minute attention to the still untouched lists.

Thank you so much to everyone who has pitched in this year. Your compassion will not be forgotten. I met up with one of our families briefly this morning. They are currently homeless. Several weeks ago, they were living minute by minute. But so many things have fallen together for them that Christmas truly feels like Christmas this year. We had only a small part in this. This family has been envelopes in the love and kindness of strangers and friends alike. It was the best way to start this day.

And if you are still wanting to help any of our families, it’s not too late! The needs are still there. Now that we’ve figured out how to respond to messages via the app, fire away with any questions.

May you all find some joy in this day.

Ho, ho, ho!

Wow, five days until Christmas. Unfortunately, we still have quite a few families going without anything for Christmas. Please, if you are able, check out their Amazon wish lists. Items will be sent directly to them, and both your name and their name will be kept anonymous.

Here is a list of families who have not received anything for Christmas. They are so grateful for any help you can offer them! Many of them don’t have another source for assistance. Let’s show them some love!

Just Five More Days!

I hate to do this, but unfortunately, we cannot accept more families at this time. We’ve had so many requests, and we’re thinking of ways to allow for more families next year, but with the short time that is left, we just don’t have the capacity to serve more of you.

We will try our best to respond to those of you who have already sent messages, and maybe there is a way we can help you find local resources to help you this holiday season.

And for those of you who have already contributed to our families, we want to offer you our deepest gratitude.

May your holiday season be filled with light and love.

Final Stretch

I remember caroling at nursing homes when I was in Girl Scouts. One of our songs had lyrics about a Christmas clock:

Tick tock, Christmas clock,

Ticking the minutes away.

Tick tock, Christmas clock,

Not very long till Christmas day.

This song is in my head right now, thinking about how we are now just ten days away from Christmas. There are still so many items left on our families’ wish lists. Many of them are not getting anything. So, take a few minutes, look through their lists and their stories, and make their holidays a little brighter.

Much love to all of you.

Tick tock, tick tock…

We need YOU! We see you, perusing lists, debating on which of the many wonderful families you want to help! Well, now is the time. Let’s make sure our sweet recipients receive your loving gifts on time for Christmas day. Questions? Just ask!

And thank you again for your compassion. Merry Christmas!

Calling all angels!

Fun-loving family of two who are so grateful for all your help. The thing I love the most about this list: it’s all a surprise! They will have no idea what they are getting. They asked to have things added for them, giving ideas on what they like and need. And I have to say, this list was fun to put together! I hope you have as much fun with it as I did. Thank you so much!

Family X’s wish list.

Family X 2019

Loving single mom of five daughters and one son. They were recently homeless but have been blessed with a place to call home. Most of their essential needs have been met, but they have nothing left for Christmas and are so grateful for any help we can give them.

Family T’s wish list.

Family T 2019

I have known this family for seven years, and they are no stranger to adversity: loss of spouse to suicide, major organ transplant, cancer and multiple sclerosis diagnoses. There are six children still at home with varying needs (one is wheelchair-bound). I am in constant awe watching them navigate so much. They so truly need all the help we can give them.

Family CC’s wish list.

Family CC 2019

received_2826658250712916

This extended family has had a year of unexpected loss, and with another family member receiving a recent cancer diagnosis, it might be their last Christmas together with this person. The only member of the family able to work currently had a recent injury which has impacted their income. The one thing they love to do together is play on their Wii, but their unit stopped working. Thanks to a generous donation, a new one is on the way. The family does not know this yet, so we’re very excited for them! The mother in particular loves Super Mario World.

When they initially contacted us, the only things they requested were necessary clothing items. They are so grateful for any help we can give them this year, so let’s make it very merry for them.

Family P 2019

Single mother of four children. They could really use some pots and pans, a vacuum, and a small area rug, as well as baby boy blankets. Mom has turned her life around for her children and is appreciative of any assistance we can give her.

First child is a 40 in pants, 3XL in shirts, and 12 in shoes (boy).

Second child is a 10 in pants and shirts and a 3 in shoes (boy).

Third child is a 6 in pants and shirts, 11 in shoes (girl).

Fourth child is a 4T in clothing and an 8.5 in shoes.

The boys would love PS4 games, and the girls would like dolls.

Family M 2019

warm-christmas

This loving single mom of three works full-time but is buried in an avalanche of court fees for divorce and custody. She has worked hard to get her children back and wants to have a great Christmas with them.

The youngest child is 6. She wears 10/12 to 12/14 in clothing and a size 2 in shoes. She loves Frozen, unicorns, and My Little Pony.

The middle child is 7, and he wears a 6/7 in clothing and 2 in shoes. He loves kinetic sand, slime, Paw Patrol, and Avengers.

The oldest is 12 and wears a 14 in pants, large in shirts, and men’s size 10 shoes. He loves sports, Pokemon, Minecraft, and Xbox.

Family K 2019

I have known this family personally for a while, and I’m always amazed at how little they survive on. Single mom with several hungry teens and a four-year-old at home. They live in chronic food instability. One of the children (middle school) is struggling in public schools, so she is going to start homeschooling with a group and could use some help with supplies. Family does not have a car, so getting groceries is difficult.
